About Scuba Diving with Triton Dive Lodge

When on holiday in Sodwana Bay, Triton Dive Charters is not only special for the fantastic SCUBA courses and experiences on offer, but also for its legendary beginnings.

Triton was established by Peter Timm and Rolleen Jacobs in 1996. Peter had had the very rare privilege of discovering a coelacanth, a prehistoric fish that was thought to be extinct until relatively recently, in Sodwana Bay in 2000. Since this exciting discovery, Peter continued his quest to spot this elusive fish, which can only be found at staggering depths. Other divers have died trying, drowning as they plunged deeper and deeper into the watery blackness. Then, in June 2014, Peter and his diving partner, Adele Stegen, both drowned off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal while trying to recover camera equipment that had fallen off a boat and into the ocean.

Despite this tragic loss, Peter left his legacy behind at Triton, which is now run by Eve Marshall (to whom Peter was engaged at the time of his death) and Rolleen. Triton is ideal for adventurers that foster a passion for the ocean; both its beauty and its mysterious power.

Triton offers courses on snorkelling and all levels of SCUBA diving. In addition, gear can be hired directly from Triton and they have an on-site air filling station. Two 8.1 metre dive ducks are available, each licensed to carry 11 divers. There is also a fantastic intern programme for enthusiastic learners that are keen on top-notch training.

South Africa's oceans are teeming with incredible plant and animal species. Triton is situated in the scenic coast of Sodwana Bay, KZN, where the warm Indian Ocean ensures fantastically inviting warm waters. There may even be an elusive coelacanth awaiting divers that are curious enough to venture to such daring depths.
