About Magaliesberg Canopy Tour

Staying at any of the Magaliesberg accommodation spots is a treat for so many reasons. The area is characterised by the looming rugged faces of one of the oldest mountain ranges on the planet – the Magaliesberg, estimated to be some 2 500 million years old. Added to this, hardy vegetation and the pristine high skies of Africa combine to set the perfect scene for some fun and (safe) adventure.

The Magaliesberg Canopy Tour® starts with a safety briefing and kitting up in all the necessary gear. Then, hop into the 4 x 4 for a two-kilometre drive through the Magaliesberg countryside; where zebra, impala and blue wildebeest can be spotted grazing. A short walk from the drop-off point will bring you to the first platform, where the fun can begin. From here, you will slide down strong cables, as you hang from the safety of a harness, over the beauty and drama of the Magaliesberg. You can whizz down at stomach-lurching speeds, or go a little slower to savour the views. You control your speed. Enjoy being at eye-level with a variety of birds, or slow down mid-flight to see some of the rock rabbits lazing in the sun below.

The guides are experienced and love helping everyone to have the most fun possible. They can point out interesting sights along the way and give a little history and context as you soar from one elevated platform to the next.

There are 11 platforms and 10 slides between them. These ensure zig-zagging amongst the trees, plenty of squealing, and loads of laughs. The entire tour takes about 2.5 hours and ends with enjoying a light snack and refreshment. This gives you the perfect chance to compare photos with the rest of the people in your tour group before heading back in the 4 x 4.

The Magaliesberg is only about 60 minutes from Pretoria and about 90 minutes from Johannesburg.
