About the Spier Light Art Festival

An overnight stay in the Winelands demands a visit to Spier Wine Farm just outside Stellenbosch. It offers loads of fun, delicious food and, of course, award-winning wines. But, once a year, it also hosts the Spier Light Art Festival and becomes a glittering wonderland.

Did you know? Book your stay in Stellenbosch at Spier Hotel to enjoy all that Stellenbosch and the Cape Winelands have to offer.

The Spier Light Art Festival is an annual event that was launched in December 2018, when the 18 light art installations were showcased to more than 10 000 spectators. It’s no wonder it’s become an annual affair.

These art installations are anything but ordinary or average, though. Some are interactive, some convey a message, and some are just plain impressive.

Visitors are invited to start off their Spier Light Art Festival experience with a picnic as the sun dips below the horizon. Then, take a stroll to the light displays and wander among them for hours. Appreciate creativity, ingenuity and enchanting light art – a great way to spend an evening with the family, or a date night out with a difference. Because of the very nature of light, the art takes on an otherworldly quality. Light breaks rules and creates dimensions that simply aren’t possible in two- or three-dimensions.

This is part of Spier’s ongoing commitment to support local artists. Another element is the Spier Art Route. If you’re staying over at Spier or nearby, then explore this route during the day to see unique pieces that are as beautiful as they are inspiring. There is even an apprenticeship programme for underprivileged artists.

Spier is multi-faceted, making it a fabulous attraction for visitors to the Cape Winelands and Cape Town (less than an hour away).

To avoid disappointment it is advisable to book your accommodation well in advance for this event.
