The name Vergelegen translates to 'lying far away' and the wine farm justly captures the fairytale qualities it's 'once upon a time ' title suggests. Modern day travel has brought a land once far far away, closer to home.
The Vergelegen story begins with some of the oldest living trees in the country guarding the three century old Homestead open to public awe. Grand interior and elegant furniture narrate the preserved archives of South African history. The original winery, original pigeon house and original mill are bystanders to a bygone era. The library dictates bound recollections of life rebirthed through the elaborate White, Herb and Rose Gardens.
Overlooking the rose garden The Rose Terrace serves light lunches and teas alfresco during the summer months. The slightly more formal Lady Phillips Restaurant serves lunch and tea overlooking the croquet lawn all year round. Gourmet picnics baskets can be ordered for collection to indulge in on the estate November through April.
Cellar tours and wine tasting call for homage to the established winery holding best South African winery status. Christmas Carols by candlelight call upon angels for harmonies and Noddy garden parties are arranged as memorable children's events.
