A gastropub is defined as a place where good food and high-quality drinks are served, and this is precisely the basis on which The Odyssey’s success has been built.

Perched on Bree Street, in the very heart of Cape Town's City Bowl, this is the first of its kind to be established in the Mother City, and has forged the way for those who know world-class dining to have a relaxed, inviting place to indulge their taste buds.

The Odyssey is the vision of childhood friends, Lorenzo Magni and Nick Shepherd, who wanted to combine a modern vibe with spectacular tastes and good music. Their vision became a reality, and continues to grow and evolve along with its popularity.

The menu consists of light tasters, platters that can be shared, and heartier options for those feeling a little more than peckish. Nibbles include the likes of lamb lollipops (served with a brandy and black pepper sauce), chilli poppers, sesame duck springrolls, scotch eggs, and hake goujons. There is a range of gourmet burgers, including gluten-free options and a vegetarian burger. The mains are a wonderful variety of classics; like fish and chips, orange chicken supreme (a dukka-infused chicken breast with butternut risotto and citrus cream), and a delicious sirloin with a variety of sauces. The salads are irresistibly novel and fresh. All of the ingredients are carefully chosen, and local produce is used where possible.

In addition to the usual range of beers, there are a number of craft beers on tap. These are the Jack Black Lager, CBC Amber Weiss, CBC Pilsner, and Butcher Block Pale Ale. The wine list is comprehensive, offering patrons a wonderful variety of local red, white and rosé options. The cocktails are the best way to unwind after a long day at the office or one spent lying in the summer sun on the beach. Try the thyme and cucumber martini, the watermelon gin and tonic, or the bacon-infused vodka with tomato cocktail, lime and Tabasco.

The live music performances create a really fantastic buzz, and finish off The Odyssey experience to perfection.
