About Tandem-Paraglide off Lions Head

Visiting Cape Town is always one of the highlights for a South African travel itinerary, because it is so fantastically beautiful and vibrant. Strolling the city centre, sampling wines in the Winelands, and endless days spent shopping and eating out are all part of the Mother City experience. But, for a really thrilling way to see the city, mountains and ocean, leave your Cape Town accommodation and head to Lion’s Head for a tandem-paraglide.

Lion’s Head is adjacent to the world-famous Table Mountain, and reaches an impressive height of 669 metres above sea level. From here, the City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard, the ocean, and even Robben Island are sprawled below you.

Paragliding off Lion’s Head and the neighbouring Signal Hill are fantastic ways to see the vastness and beauty of Cape Town, while soaring in exhilarating flight above it all. A tandem-paraglide is for those with no experience in gliding, as a well-qualified paraglider and guide accompanies you on this. There is no age limit, as long as children under 18 years of age have the consent of their parents. There is, however, a weight limit (usually about 120 kilograms for the passenger, but this will need to be confirmed with your provider).

A short brief is provided before take-off, so that you know what to expect and what to look out for along the way. The direction you head will depend on the wind direction, which also determines if conditions are safe enough for flying. By taking the weather into account at all times, visitors are assured of plenty of fun in the safest conditions.

The length of your flight will also depend on the weather, but the flight instructors will always try to make the flights as long as possible (up to 30 minutes long) for the enjoyment of their passengers. While you are soaring through the skies, look out for the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Town Stadium (convenient to accommodation in Green Point), Table Mountain, the Castle of Good Hope, the Clifton beaches, and the bustling comings and goings of the city centre.
