About Millers Thumb Restaurant
The Millers Thumb is a Cape Town stalwart - one of those rare gems that have had locals and tourists returning for more of its magic for decades. Solly and Jane Solomon have all the right ingredients when it comes to running a restaurant in the bustling area of Gardens, within the Cape Town city bowl. A mix of a casual atmosphere, hands-on involvement, delicious food, slight eccentricity and a twist on the usual favourites, make Miller’s Thumb a firm fixture on the local restaurant scene.
Three inter-leading rooms speak of the old home that Millers Thumb was housed in many years ago, lending it a quaint and warm atmosphere. Solly expertly prepares the seafood that the Millers Thumb is so well-known for, including mussels and calamari - which are best enjoyed grilled with just the gentle charred flavour from the grill. Solly’s prawns and linefish are highly recommended, as well as the perfectly prepared succulent squid. Solly's fishy version of chilli con carne is a delight, with its dark red beans adding textural contrast to delicately-cooked linefish, prawns and squid.
Cajun and Creole dishes have their influence in this kitchen, with exotic exceptions such as the Yaki Soba; a noodle dish with prawns, chicken and cashews. The menu is interesting and varied, with the perfect wine to compliment every morsel.
