The charming little town of Porterville in the Western Cape hosts the Porterville Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 09h00 to 14h00. This is a fun event that is focussed on the community and on supporting local producers. Added to this, the market is a great place to meet up with friends and family and to enjoy good food and a great vibe.

Fresh produce and excellent quality goods make the weekly farmers’ market a real treat. Locals love meeting up with visitors here and hearing stories of their travels. What’s more, local charities also get to sell goods and raise money for their worthy causes.

The goods available at the Porterville Farmers’ Market are locally sourced and as varied as the people themselves. Keep an eye out for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat products, home-baked cakes, breads, preserves, and much more. Butter, milk and eggs from the farms are always that little bit better, and can be bought right here at the market. All of the produce is available at excellent prices and is perfect for stocking the pantry or as gifts for those back home.

This is a fantastic morning out for the whole family. Children love exploring the farmlands on tractor or pony rides. Hot coffee, cold beers, and delicious South African wines are all part of the Porterville experience. The market venue can be hired for private functions too.

Visitors to the market that want to work up a bit of a sweat are invited to participate in the Farm Run and Walk, which is five kilometres long and starts at 07h30. The route includes the scenic working farms on which pomegranates, citrus fruits , and lemongrass are grown.

The market is on the Houdconstant Farm in Porterville. If you’re visiting the area, you may also enjoy discovering the ancient rock art in the surrounding caves, paragliding or hang-gliding from dizzying heights, or spotting the extremely rare Disa uniflora flower. Porterville is just less than two hours from Cape Town and it's International Airport.
