Overnight? Stay at accommodation in Hermanus, in Western Cape

The spectacular landscapes of the Overberg region promise lifelong memories and unbeatable photo opportunities; and there are few things better than experiencing these from the heights of a saddle.

Heaven & Earth Horse Trails are nestled in the midst of the mountains of the scenic Hemel en Aarde Valley, just outside the whale watching Mecca of Hermanus. These trails and the responsive horses that negotiate them with ease are available to beginners and seasoned riders alike, giving all visitors an opportunity to experience the splendour of the Western Cape.

The Heaven & Earth Horse Trails are based on the gorgeous Karweyderskraal Farm and range from tranquil meanders through the countryside to exciting outrides with a more adventurous pace. Along the way, the mountain vistas and clear blue skies of Africa create a scene that is nothing short of breath-taking.

The Standard Trail

The STANDARD TRAIL is ideal for riders of all abilities. It winds its way through the fynbos and other wild flowers of the Western Cape mountains, with the aid of an experienced and knowledgeable guide. This ride can be anywhere between one and four hours, depending on what you would like to see and how much time you have available.

The Custom Trails

The CUSTOM TRAILS are perfect for riders that want something special or are celebrating an event. They are the ultimately romantic settings for proposals, celebrating anniversaries, setting the scene for an engagement shoot, or just creating an idyllic backdrop for a picnic or braai with friends. These trails may not be available between November and February, which is peak season.

Two Valleys Wine Route Trail

Enjoying the excellent wines and gorgeous scenery on the TWO VALLEYS WINE ROUTE TRAIL is made even more incredible on horseback. This ride is only for riders that have experience and are comfortable with controlling and understanding a horse. Along the way, visit some of the wine farms that are producing excellent South African wines and sample their delicious reds and whites. This ride starts at the stables and heads out to the Sumaridge Wine Estate (Upper Valley), through the surrounding vineyards, past the De Bos Dam, across rugged land and down to the La Vierge Cellar & Restaurant in the Lower Valley. This is a spectacular ride that awakens the senses and indulges the soul.
