About Danger Beach

Just outside the hustle and bustle of Cape Town are little towns that are bursting at the seams with charm and character. St James and Kalk Bay are two of these treasures, and also happen to be the homes of the inviting Danger Beach. Don’t be put off by the name, though. It refers to the rip tides and massive waves, not to crime. Still, it is popular for swimming and surfing (for those that are comfortable in the sea). It is also excellent for lazy strolls on the warm sands, flanked by the mountains and False Bay.

For little ones or those that aren’t up to braving the waves, there is a small tidal pool on one side of the beach. Children will also love playing on the sand and building castles, surrounded by the unspoilt prettiness of the Western Cape.

This beach is popular for various water sports; including surfing, body surfing, and stand-up paddling.

Danger Beach is close to the train station at St James and is a short walk from the quirky shops and restaurants of Kalk Bay. It is accessible via the subway that runs under the railway. There are toilet facilities at the beach, as well as parking. Lifeguards are on duty during peak times. Pets are not permitted, unless they are service animals (such as guide dogs for those that are visually impaired).

Kalk Bay is known for its arty vibe and incredible food. There are old-school book shops alongside boutiques that stock unique creations from local designers. The city centre of Cape Town is about half an hour away, while the Cape Point National Park is less than an hour away from Danger Beach.
