The main road of Kalk Bay is flanked on one side by its guesthouses and self-catering apartments, and on the other by its beautiful beaches. And visitors to this village just outside Cape Town will, no doubt, love visiting the pretty little beach and tidal pool of Dalebrook.

This is a great beach for the whole family, because it has a shallow tidal pool, which is fabulous for swimming and playing without massive waves crashing on you or rips tugging you into deep water. Because the tidal pool’s wall is low, the water is constantly being refreshed by the ocean. There are also rock pools and gullies, for inquisitive little ones that want to explore the marine life here; and a sandy strip that is perfect for sunbathing, reading, or building sand castles.

Thanks to its locale, Dalebrook Beach is little more protected from the south-easterly wind, making it a retreat when some of Cape Town’s other beaches are being sandblasted. Dalebrook enjoys the most amount of sun in the morning, before the sun dips below the mountain.

There are toilets, a changing room, and an outdoor shower for visitors that want to spend some time on the beach. However, there are no restaurants or shops on the beach itself, which means that you should pack a picnic basket or some snacks.

There is street parking available along the main road of Kalk Bay. This road is also dotted with boutiques, antique stores, and eateries galore. After a morning spent swimming and tanning, head to the shops and restaurants for a real taste of the Kalk Bay charm.

Kalk Bay is only about 35 to 40 minutes from the City Bowl, Table Mountain, V & A Waterfront, and the CTICC. Following a different route, it is about the same distance from the Cape Town International Airport.
