About Black Oystercatcher Restaurant
Cape Agulhas is mystical, ethereal; with a rugged beauty that is entirely unique. Shipwrecks lie in plain sight as they slowly break down, becoming part of the weathered beaches. This is the southernmost tip of Africa, and home to the excellent Black Oystercatcher Restaurant.
Here, diners are treated to fresh, local ingredients; which means that the menu changes with the seasons in a dynamic fluidity that works with the rhythms of the earth. Fresh produce is plucked from the garden, expertly prepared, and presented to hungry foodies. All of the dishes have been designed to be paired with the outstanding range of boutique wines. Despite these high standards, the restaurant enjoys a relaxed ambience that is inviting and warm.
During the hot African summer months, there is a cool breeze coming off the ocean, refreshing diners and providing the ideal retreat from the heat. In the chilly winters of the Western Cape, the indoor log fire crackles alluringly, warming visitors to their core as they indulge in delicious food and wines. The views showcase the wetlands, which are part of the conserved Nuwejaars Wetlands Special Management Area, and sprawling fields of endemic fynbos.
The Black Oystercatcher Restaurant is situated on a scenic wine farm close to Elim, a small village that is characterised by whitewashed cottages and fruit trees. It is about 2.5 hours' drive from Cape Town and its international airport, winelands and many tourist attractions.
