About South Downs Country Club
Taking full advantage of the pretty southern suburbs of Johannesburg, South Downs Country Club is accessible and convenient. It is a veritable retreat from the city, despite its ideal positioning right in the heart of the Jo-burg (South Africa's busiest commercial epicentre). It was initially called Virginia Park Golf Club by most, despite its name having always officially been South Downs.
The course has the Bloubos Spruit running through it, which is instrumental in creating a number of water hazards to test the pros and lay the foundation of golfing for beginners. This natural water feature brings with it a variety of bird life and a different selection of vegetation, making the whole area a little treasure of South African fauna and flora.
The course is open from Tuesday to Sunday, and visitors are always welcome. It is highly recommended that you book your hotel or accommodation in Johannesburg and your tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment. Thanks to its proximity to the CBD of Johannesburg, South Downs is a great choice for those wanting to use it for corporate golf days and team building initiatives.
There is a pro shop based at the club for added convenience, as well as golf carts and clubs for hire. The club's function venue is well suited to events and celebrations, and can accommodate up to 120 guests.
