About the Knysna Oyster Festival

Knysna’s Oyster Festival has been a roaring success since 1983, when it was still called the Knysna Winter Festival. Attracting sport enthusiasts, families, food- and wine-lovers and adrenalin junkies, the festival offers something for everyone from running, cycling and golfing to wine tastings, live music and, of course, oysters.

The festival is spread across 10 days of winter, which includes two weekends. The festival boasts a varied programme and is the perfect reason to pack your bags with family and friends, and visit Knysna

The exciting Knysna Forest Marathon will take runners through the verdant vegetation that makes this part of the world so spectacular. There is a 21 kilometre and a 42 kilometre option, so runners can choose the distance that best suits their fitness and training. The Knysna Cycle Tour has both a mountain bike and road bike race. There are also shorter bicycle races for families with energetic youngsters.

For those that prefer “exercise” of a different kind, the Knysna Wine Festival will be back, and of course, the Knysna oyster will once again have the main stage. “Wild oysters are harvested from the coastline around Knysna and will be served in a variety of ways - raw, cooked or steamed – delectable concoctions or plain with a dash of lemon. It is an oyster lovers’ dream
