Eastern Cape DestinationsMount Pleasant, Port Elizabeth
The leafy suburb of Mount Pleasant is situated in Port Elizabeth, which is the largest constituent of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province. It is on the outskirts of the city, creating the barrier between the residential parts of Walmer and the far more rural farms and smallholdings of Seaview.
The homes of Mount Pleasant range from the family homes of yesteryear to modern townhouse complexes for newlyweds or the up-and-coming. It is only 20 minutes’ drive from the main beaches of Port Elizabeth (King’s Beach, Humewood, Hoby, etc...) and 10 to 15 minutes from the wilder coasts of Schoenmakerskop and Sardinia Bay. During the months of July to December, many people gather along these shores to watch the whales as they pass through these warm waters, often with calves in tow.
The streets are wide and quiet, and children can often be seen playing or cycling through the neighbourhood.
Emerald Square Mall is situated within Mount Pleasant itself; along with doctors, restaurants, pubs, and entertainment facilities. Other malls, like Walmer Park and Greenacres, are mere minutes away too. This means that Mount Pleasant presents the ideal combination of convenient locale and the peace and quiet that comes from not being in the city centre.
