The Larder Claremont stems from the original branch at Block and Chisel in Diep River, Cape Town, and speaks of the ongoing growth and success of Sonja Edridge’s passion. Having achieved a merit at Leith’s School of Food and Wine in London, cooking for some very notable celebrities (including Johnny Depp and the Queen), editing major food publications for supermarket chains like Sainsbury’s, and shooting food for Jamie Oliver and his peers, Sonja certainly holds her own amongst local and international food-lovers.
The Larder’s dishes are sometimes decadent, sometimes clean and crisp; but always absolutely delectable. The breakfasts include classic eggs Benedict, and roasted wild mushrooms on sourdough, as well as healthy yoghurt with homemade seed and nut dukka and a larder jam. Special breakfasts include the indulgent cinnamon buns, and a fluffy omelette with fresh herbs and a lemon cream cheese. Open sandwiches, homemade breads, and Banting options mean that there is plenty of variety for each unique diner. There are also an array of sweet delights that will leave patrons hankering for more. On Monday evenings, The Larder is open for dinner until 21h30.
The Larder is licensed and specialises in tasty craft beers and organic wines from South Africa. Enjoy your meal with these novel flavours for a real taste adventure.
The menu is especially wonderful for its commitment to local goods, organic ingredients, pasture-reared meat, fair trade coffee and biodegradable packaging.
This is a neighbourly café with a warm atmosphere and a very real rhythm. Sonja and her team share a very real passion for The Larder and the dishes that they present. This passion pervades the space and meals, giving patrons a real feeling of something truly unique.
