Sail a Hobie Cat in Langebaan, Western Cape

Hobie Cats are small high performance sailing boats (catamarans) which can easily be launched from the beach into the waves, sailed singled handedly and returned to the shore in the surf.

Discover the rush of being suspended in a trapeze harness from a cable attached to the high point of the sailing mast and bracing yourself soles against the boat, parallel to the ocean to provide the counter balance to the wind in the sails. The idyllic wind patterns on the Langebaan Lagoon pump winds up to 60 Km per hour through the sails and the warm translucent water shadows your silhouette. Fish Hoek beach with tepid water temperatures, reliable wind and tame surf is also a Hobie hotspot.

Charters can be scheduled in a 16ft (one passenger, one skipper) or 18ft (one skipper, two passengers) Hobie Cat. A demo sail in a double hull Hobie with a qualified skipper is available to test if you take to the waters and the rush of the sport. Thereafter courses at the sailing school instruct on safety, rigging the craft, launching, harnessing the wind, surfing the swell, sailing the big blue, racing strategy and reversing from a capsize if it all happens to fast (righting).

Day courses, beginner courses and intermediate courses are offered with equipment, sailing, instruction and course material provided. This form of wind racing is ideal for youngsters who can easily handle the lightweight vessel.
