'Marianas at owls barn' is one of Cape Town's most treasured country restaurants - loved by locals, international visitors and critics alike. In a country cottage setting, overlooking vegetable gardens, fruit trees and the mountains beyond, Marianas offers discerning foodies an unpretentious taste of Cape Cuisine.
Receiving top ratings in the Rossouw food guide, three years in a row, and winner of eat-outs 'Best country kitchen' award, Marianas is not only an experience in delicious cuisine, but a return to the practice of long Sunday lunches. Favourites on the menu range from the gruyere souffles and lamb shank, nicknamed ‘Skaap en dinge’, through to their handmade pasta, which they call ‘Rotolo’.
Mariana’s sources almost all their ingredients from their own vegetable, fruit and herb garden, which Mariana affectionately refers to as a ‘kitchen garden.’ The garden boasts vegetables and leaves, and olive grove and fruit trees such as guava, citrus, quince, fig and pomegranate. Husband and wife team, Mariana and Peter add their own brand of warmth, charm and quirky appeal to Mariana’s. Their philosophy of sourcing ingredients as close to home as possible, is one of the elements that make the restaurant so special. Their hands-on approach to everything is one of the ingredients that add such heart and magic to every morsel.
