The rejuvenated area of Woodstock (so leave the good jewellery at home and park near the entrance) provides relief in the form of laughter at 'Jou Ma se Comedy Club' (Your Mother's Comedy Club) founded by local celebrity comic Kurt Schoonraad.
The Albert Hall building is a historic venue with a licensed bar and a bouncer (hey it's still a 'club'). Intimate interiors feature seating at old sewing tables, a scattered collection of vintage furniture pieces for ambiance, a wooden stage for the laughter dispensing complete with spotlight and red velvet stage curtains. South African comedic talent delivers South African comedy to locals and internationals audiences. Not for sensitive audiences the original material showcases the humour of all South African cultures, mentalities, regions, religions, fashion, sports, television, leaders, history and politics.
Colloquial situations, honest interpretations, character impersonations and actual anecdotes bring all South Africans together in the humour of their differences. A compilation of all South African accents and stereotypes take to stage as material for good times. There are a few lines in local languages but for foreigners who can't translate the vocabulary, the delivery is funny enough.
Headline and supporting acts sketch a cross section of humour substance from each live show's selection of comedians. Comedy legends and fledglings parade their individual wit with interactive entertainment that is proudly South African.
