Push pedal through the vineyards in a scenic outdoor experience educating you on the local wine and landscape. This 'slow tourism' caters for all ages and levels of fitness. Organised by "Bikes ‘n Wines", the day begins by meeting the guides at a cafe on the famed Long Street followed by a brief historic walk through the Company Gardens to Cape Town's Train Station.
Travel First Class to Stellenbosch arriving at Lynedoch-Eco Village where all equipment, helmets and bicycles are provided. You will cover a little over 17 kilometers of wine country burning off all the days wine consumption calories through healthy exercise in the scenic winelands. The day includes the visiting of 4 beautiful wine farms and the tasting of over 20 wines covering a diverse range of blends and grapes.
This eco friendly day trip is completely environment aware with a low carbon footprint through the use of bicycles and trains. Recycling of the days waste products are catered for and encouraged. Only wine farms involved in good labour practice and the empowerment of previously disadvantaged labourers of the Winelands area are visited. Partnering with Lynedoch-Eco Village, a portion of every ride sold is donated to the Child Leadership and Development Programme run at the local Lynedoch School improving the opportunities of the local children.
Personalised as well as large groups and corporate tours are offered. It is recommended that you bring about R150 with you for lunch and to buy a bottle or two of wine. Should you wish to buy a case or two they are delivered to the Lynedoch-Eco Village so you can collect the boxes for the train ride home when your return the bicycles. Dress in clothing comfortable for cycling with sunscreen, sunglasses and warm clothing if the weather turns. Regretfully exercise speeds up the processing of alcohol out your system so you are unlikely to return home drunk but will definitely return home happy.
