About Blaauwklippen Wine Estate

Blaauwklippen was established by Gerrit Jansz Visser in 1682. The first vineyards were planted in 1688, the first Zinfandel grapes in 1977 followed by the first Zinfandel wines three years later. Graham Boonzaaier began the first carriage collection at the estate in the same year that Zinfandel grapes were planted. In 1999, the Schoerghuber family bought the estate and ten years later the first Reserve collection is released comprising Shiraz, a Zinfandel, an aperitif and brandy.

Situated on the lower slopes if the Papagaaimountains, the farm lies beside the Blaauwklip River. It’s manor house and ‘Jonkerhuis’ were built over 200 years ago. The estate was in disarray until Graham purchased it and thanks to him it morphed into a modern estate and its Zinfandel won many a prize.

When visiting, you have to take a peak at the coach museum where you’ll see a collection of horse-drawn omnibuses, old carts and old vehicles which can still operate. Visit the wine centre beneath the fig trees, see the new cellar where special 'méthode champenoise Barouch' sparkling wine is being created and dine at the Traditional Cape Kitchen restaurant.
