Explore South Africa's World of Beer

Easily accessible to all beer drinkers in Gauteng, the South African Breweries (SAB) poured a multi million Rand investment into the rejuvenation of Johannesburg City creating the World of Beer.

Celebrating SAB's centenary year the World of Beer was formally opened in 1995 by former President Nelson Mandela and has been informally enjoyed by local and international visitors ever since. South Africa is world renown for its beer and brewing quality and the World of Beer is a world class exploration of beer's world heritage. The 90 minute tour is fun and informative with tour guides bringing to life the details of personalities that pursued beer brewing in South Africa.

Watch through 3D glasses as Egyptians pioneer beermaking and trace its flow through Ancient Mesopotamia, Africa and Europe. Touch leaves in the Greenhouse where a tangible display of the green plants that constitute raw beer ingredients grow. Duck through the doorway of a quirky recreated township Shebeen (South African rural bar) and visit history in the nostalgic old town tavern replica named Heritage Hall.

Watch as the majestic Brew House and Maltings facilities impress in function and design. Lightboxes reflect beer lessons, touch screen terminals flash beer packaging through the ages and arc cinema screens reveal community development. Multimedia displays create interactive experiences throughout the tour but the best interactive experience is between beer and mouth while refreshing on two free frosty beers in a complimentary World of Beer glass at the tour finishing point and pub, On Tap.

Take home a momento from the Tangards and Toggs shop with clothing, caps, glasses and accessories branded in your favorite South African beer logo. Make beer and friends at one of South Africa's top two tourist rated experiences, the SAB World of Beer.
