About Black Horse Craft Brewery

The Magaliesberg is an ancient mountain range, just an hour from Johannesburg and its international airport. This range is home to many treasures, not least of all the Black Horse Brewery. Nestled right in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, this brewery and craft distillery boasts views of the Zeekoeihoeok Valley to make your beer-drinking experience even more memorable.

The brewery was established in 2012 and the beers are produced by Nerushka Botha, who is one of the youngest female brewers in the country. It is equipped with a boil kettle, a mash / lauter tun, and six 400-litre fermenters. These are used to create delicious beers that include the:

• Ginger Berry – a traditional beer that has subtle infusions of lemon and strawberries, and is candyfloss-pink in colour.
• Golden Lager – a crisp beer with subtle notes of caramel and honey.
• Premium Lager – a bitter pilsner with a soft mouth-feel.
• IPA – bitter and fruity with distinct citrus (especially grapefruit) flavours.
• Stable Weiss – an easy-drinking white beer with banana and citrus undertones.
• Stallion Stampede Double IPA – hoppy (more than bitter) with a delicious floral taste, this is underscored by grapefruit and mild malt.
• Ginger Ale – this low-sugar ale is made with fresh ginger for a tasty, but light refresher.

The Black Horse Estate is also home to a gin distillery, as well as a charming restaurant and a venue for weddings and other special occasions.

This Gauteng Brewery combines the awesome flavours of unique brews with views of the spectacular Magalies River and the untouched beauty of Gauteng. This makes Black Horse Craft Brewery a must for visitors to this part of South Africa and, certainly, to those with a passion for out-of-the-box-beers.
