About the Greyton Rose Fair
This year celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Greyton Rose Fair. Traditionally held over the last weekend of October, the fair provides visitors with an opportunity to explore and discover the beauty of the village of Greyton while at the same time enjoying the beautiful roses and gardens on display.
The attraction of the hundreds of roses in the DRC hall over the weekend has never diminished and are a huge drawcard. The roses all come from local gardens and are grouped according to colour and category, making a wonderful - and fragrant - display.
The Saturday Morning Market - a Greyton institution - is extended to include many extra stalls. Not only is the market larger than usual, it is also open for longer and visitors and locals spend many happy hours selecting everything from organic produce to delicious homemade cakes, pies and pastries.
Locals open their gardens for visitors to enjoy on both the Saturday and Sunday - with some garden owners kind enough to offer a refreshing drink to their foot-weary visitors. Varying in size, form and theme from garden to garden, visitors have the chance to see everything from gardens dedicated to food production, to those whose sole purpose is to create beauty and please the senses.
The Greyton Rose Fair is organised by the community and benefits the community. This year's theme is Put A Smile On A Child, and that – with the help of both locals and visitors - is the intended goal. The organisers, all volunteers, are working closely with several local charities that focus on underprivileged children in the community with the goal of enhancing their lives in some meaningful way.
Venue: Greyton in the Overberg, situated at the end of the R406, one hour from Cape Town.
