Two-and-a-half hours' drive north of Cape Town is the magnificent Cederberg. This is a world-class boulder area and boasts some of the best trad rock climbing routes in the country. Rock climbing opportunities in the Eastern Cape include Lady's Slipper, Van Stadens Gorge, The Grips, The Gorges and Windmill Hole to mention a few.

The pristine Blouberg in Limpopo and the Magaliesberg in the North West Province are also awesome rock climbing hot spots with many challenging climbs to suit the experience level of any rock climber.

The Mountain Club of South Africa is one of only two clubs in Africa to be affiliated to the world mountaineering body UIAA, the MCSA offers awesome rock climbing opportunities to its members. It is involved in mountain search and rescue, training, conservation of mountain areas, procurement of access for mountaineering, and competition climbing.

The club has 13 autonomous sections in the Cape, Johannesburg, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Magaliesberg, Stellenbosch, Paarl / Wellington, Tygerberg and Worcester.
