The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve herds 16 000ha of typical Gauteng Highveld terrain. Privately owned and non-subsidised it was awarded best Nature and Game Reserve in the Gauteng Province in 2007.
Savannah country surrounds the park where experienced animal handlers track hoof prints on private game drives through the bush to locate the best viewing of wild animals in their natural habitat. Predators and herbivores; hunters and hunted; tame and wild; big and small, strong and meek, all creatures of Africa roam the park. The hunters eat 9 tons of meat a month (80-90 cow or horse carcasses). 50 Lions, 17 Cheetahs, 10 Rhinos and 23 Wild Dogs impress as part of the extensive animal collection.
Rare White Tigers, Siberian Tigers and Bengal Tigers are toothy imports while an active breeding program exports zoo animals globally. 25 Species make up 600 head of wild game. 20 Herbivores species include Blesbok, Black Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Impala, Springbok and White Rhino. 300 Cape Vultures fly in from the Magaliesburg Mountains for the daily feed, other birds include the Black Eagle, Black Shouldered Kite and the Ostrich. Pat a Zebra, wrap a snake around yourself and wave at the Pygme Hippos.
Kids practice their roar while petting cute lion cubs in the Animal Crèche. Cheetah and Tiger cubs are also up for cuddling and a photo with one on one time scheduled for 5 minutes (R20). The Pub overlooks a watering hole with Nile Crocodiles. Danielsrust Horse Trails facilitate rides and lessons in the conservancy with spectacular game spotting from saddle. The on site Observatory allows for park sky gazing with sophisticated telescopes. There is a children's playpark alongside the restaurant. 30 Shaded braai areas, several picnic spots, and a swimming pool are enjoyed facilities. Hiking trails, 4x4 adventures and the neighbouring Wondercave make for a wild day safari.
