About 50 kilometres south of the metropolis of Johannesburg is Heidelberg, which takes full advantage of its pretty setting against the Suikerbosrand Mountain Range. This is the proud home of the Heidelberg Golf Club, which boasts breath-taking views of the mountains from each of its nine holes and 18 tee boxes.
The doglegs, roughs and water hazards ensure that this course is every bit as challenging as it is fun. It is easy to use and negotiate, but by no means only a beginnerís course. The superior grasses were chosen specifically for their suitability for golfing, and promise optimal conditions. The modern facilities of the club combine with the classic elegance of this gentlemenís game to ensure that Heidelberg offers golfers just about everything that they desire from a day on the greens.
Visitors are welcome to play this course; it is open every day, including Mondays. There is a driving range to enable players to test their swing, as well as rental carts. The in-house pro shop is fully stocked and promises willing assistance. There is also a halfway house at Heidelberg Golf Club, with a fully-licensed bar, which is even more inviting after an afternoon on the fairways. Catering services are on offer, and there is an event venue for hire.
