Port Elizabeth Golf Club, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape

Port Elizabeth Golf Course, Westview Drive, Port Elizabeth / Port Elizabeth Golf Club, which is commonly known as "The Hill", was founded in 1890 and is one of South Africa's oldest golf clubs. Today the place is a hive of activity for its 1 600 members, and the emphasis is placed on good food and entertainment as well as golf.

The most significant change in recent years has been the laying of “putter” bent grass greens, and 25 strategically placed bunkers. The course has two nines of par 36, for a total par of 72 for the 6121 metre layout. The tree and shrub-lined fairways have received added lustre with the introduction of the bent grass greens, and additional palm trees and wild strelitzias.

Signature Hole
The two “signature” holes have distinctive water features - the 8th (a par five) has water on the right of the fairway and green, whilst the 17th (a par three) has water in front and to the right of the green.

Facilities
There are five bars in operation while a popular a la carte dining facility operates on Friday evenings.

Events
The major event of the year is the annual Boardwalk Festival of Golf, held in November of every year. The Festival offers seven days of golf and entertainment, and is an important fund-raiser for the Club. It is through events like the Festival that the Port Elizabeth Golf Club is able to maintain it’s pristine condition all year round. This is one of the most “festive” of golfing Festivals in the country, with well over 1500 golfers joining in the fun.
