About Gert Boom Cottage

Gert Boom at Papkuilsfontein is a lovely airy cottage offering accommodation in Niewoudtville on the Papkuilsfontein Farm. The cottage is built in sandstone and lies on the other side of a rocky ridge from De Hoop. Completely private, there is a poplar grove and old pear trees to the west, restios all around framing the landscape, and a view towards the canyon.

Self Catering Accommodation

Gert Boom has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, both with showers only, one of which is part of the double bedroom. The other bedroom is twin bedded and a further two single beds.

Comfortable chairs and a sofa are next to the hearth, so welcome on cold winter evenings, and its fireplace doubles as an indoor braai. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with four-burner hob, oven and fridge all gas-powered.

Dining

Many guests, though, prefer to book dinner which is delivered to the cottage. Breakfast is only served at the converted farm kitchen at the main homestead.

Friday, Saturdays and Sundays, prepacked meals such as braaipacks with sides etc will be available and the same with breakfast. The kitchen will only be open Monday to Thursday. During the week, if you want to book meals, please inform us a few days in advance.

Outside / Experiences

Outdoors there is patio and braai area, a hammock is suspended between two huge gum trees and there is the option in summer of a refreshing swim in the farm-style reservoir pool about 100m from the cottage. For the more energetic there are extensive mountain bike trails – and bikes for hire, and wonderful walking opportunities to the dramatic canyon and surrounds. There is a farm jeep track to the canyon too.

Detailed maps of the farm and trails and reference works on flora and fauna are provided in the cottage.
