About JP Bredell Wines

From the moment you reach the dirt road and make your way up to the cellar and tasting room, you’ll feel like you are truly on a farm. It has such a laid back feel and whilst the tasting is relaxed, all the energy on this farm is used making their award winning red and port wines.

Even though they’ve always been famous for producing port, JP Bredall Wines have been making great red wines since 1970. In 1996, JP Bredell decided to retain some of its best wines and sell it in South Africa. The well-draining soils have proved perfect for making port. The production of port began in 1933.

The Bredell family took over Helderzicht farm in 1965 where port was produced experimentally and established their name in South Africa. Bredell’s port originates from Tinta Barocca, Souzao and newly planted Touriga Nacional varieties and is produced in the traditional lager style but with its own local flavour. Their red wines include Shiraz, Pinotage and Merlot. Anton first bottled his first vintage port in 1991 under his own label. And in 1996 his first red wine was released. He believes in God’s hand in the cellar and the vineyards. Taste their wine and port and decide for yourself.
