About Drayman’s Brewery & Distillery
After tasting traditional mielie (corn) beer when he was only 12 or 13 years old, Moritz Kallmeyer started his lifelong love-affair with craft beers. Since then, he has been brewing different beers while maintaining his commitment to the traditional methods that have earned these beers the thumbs-up from beer-lovers all over the world.
Drayman’s has been an official South African brewery since 1997 and is based in Pretoria, Gauteng. At first, Kallmeyer used converted copper geysers in his garage and stored malt in his spare bedroom. Now, however, Drayman’s has evolved into a modern facility and supplies restaurants, taverns, bars and liquor stores all over the province.

Letzter Wunsch Helles
This is a light beer that is full of malty, hoppy flavour. Thanks to the low alcohol, it is easy to drink all afternoon.
Berghof
Pale with a delicate fruitiness, the Berghof is clean, with a distinctly German-inspired malty finish.
Düssel Altbier
This copper-red beer has a gorgeous aromatic quality with a hoppy bitterness and a vivid malt flavour.
Goblin’s Bitter
The fruity bitter with its spicy hop nuances is delicious for those that enjoy a layered taste sensation.
Emperor-India Pale Ale
The pungent hops and the intense bitterness that lingers long after the last sip is the winning formula for this beer.
Altstadt Weissbier
Plenty of wheat malt is used to create a good weiss beer, which has a crisp freshness. In fact, some prefer their weiss with a slice of lemon to make the most of this acidity.
Jolly Monk
A medium body, a fruity palate and a bittersweet finish; this is a delicious beer with plenty of personality. There are undertones of caramel and smoked malt. This is the perfect winter beer, as it warms you from the inside.
Tours of the brewery are a great way to learn more about traditional German brewing and to chat to the beer-maker himself. Silverton, home to Drayman’s, is a pretty Pretoria suburb that is just 51 kilometres from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
