The Wartrail Skywalk is a 5 day guided slackpacking trail through the spectacular Eastern Cape Drakensberg, near to Rhodes. This hike will take you from river gorges up to mountain peaks taking in bushman paintings, caves, rock-formations and wonderful birdlife along the way.

The trail is guided by local farmers who can entertain you with local legends, show you the most secret places and will spoil you rotten with wonderful food and hospitality at the end of each day’s hike. Accommodation is provided in beautiful Guest Farms chosen for their charm and tranquil locations. More luxury for the older hiker who enjoys their comforts. Your hosts will provide catering, guiding services, porterage and equipment, leaving you to just have fun and enjoy the clean air and spectacular views!

The hike traverses well-managed farmland and montane grassland. Altitudes range from 1800m to 2700m, so if the hiking doesn’t take your breath away then the views of the Southern Drakensberg and Maluti mountains will. Home to the Lammergeier (Bearded Vulture), Black Eagle, alpine wildflowers and various small wildlife, this hike will appeal to anyone wanting to get away from it all and experience nature at it’s purest.

Hikes are tailored to the groups needs i.e. strong hikers will be able to walk up to the peaks of the Southern Drakensberg whereas contour routes are available for those wanting a more sedate walk. Hikes are unmarked and therefore guides are provided. Take with you only day packs while your backpacks are transported to your next destination. Each hiker will be supplied with a lunch-pack. Dinner will consist of a 3-course meal and breakfast is a farmstyle affair.
