About the Garden Route Kite Festival

Since this event was established in 2015, it has continued to grow in support and a really fun vibe. The Eden Kite Festival celebrates the power of the wind and the sheer art of kites, and is held anually in Sedgefield, along the Garden Route.

This edition of the kite festival, which will be on the massive fields of Knysna High School for the convenience of spectators and participants. These include contestants from South Africa and abroad, who will showcase cutting edge designs and technology with lashings of pure fun.

The full programme includes loads of entertainment for all ages, as well as a gorgeous art and craft market that shows off some of the creativity of the locals. Everything from food to clothing, jewellery, decor, and ornaments will be available to buy from the event. This community-oriented event will play a key role in uplifting the locals too, making it even more rewarding. In fact, the purpose of the event is to provide disadvantaged children with clothing, transport, food and accommodation so that they can enjoy their education without these added challenges.

The trail run starts at the kite field and is an excellent way for visitors to enjoy the festival and get their heart rates up in the spectacular surrounds of the Eden District.

Sedgefield is home to a number of laid-back restaurants, bars and coffee shops. It is on the doorsteps of a scenic lagoon, and only a few minutes’ drive from the pristine stretches of white sand, which are lapped by the Indian Ocean.

This is the idyllic setting in which to celebrate the ancient art of kite flying. What’s more, Sedgefield is only 25 kilometres from Knysna, less than 60 kilometres from Plettenberg Bay and just over 36 kilometres from George and its airport.

TIME: The gates open at 09h30 and close at 16h30.
