About Taung Heritage Site

Taung is a little town situated in the southern part of the North West Province, South Africa, which is part of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality. The Taung Heritage Site is situated at the quarry and remains an area of enormous archaeological import. More than this, it is also a fascinating place for visitors to explore and to learn about the ancient history of southern Africa and the civilisations that preceded modern societies. In fact, this is believed by many anthropologists and other scientists to be the site of the first human being, enforcing the notion that Africa is the origin of humankind.
