Konkie Bay, Tsitsikamma

The Tsitsikamma is one of South Africa's most exquisite gems. It is lush, verdant, and bursting with natural beauty in many different forms – mountains, rivers, valleys, forests and beaches. It is found in the Western Cape of South Africa, along the world-renowned Garden Route. This route's borders are between Storms River in the Eastern Cape and around Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.

Konkie Bay is a small village in the heart of the Tsitsikamma. It is quiet and untainted by the hubbub of city living. Uninterrupted views of the warm Indian Ocean waters are par for the course here, and the sound of the waves is a backing track to just about anything that you find to do in the village. Schools of dolphins can often be seen gliding effortlessly through the water or playing in the waves. Every year, between the months of July and December, whales visit the coast and can easily be spotted from the shores and beaches.

The climate here is pleasant; with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Spring and autumn are fantastic times to visit too, although perhaps a little chilly for a swim in the early morning or evening.

Thanks to its situation, Konkie Bay is close to a number of very popular tourist attractions and a host of fun things to do and see. Blackwater Tubing down the tannin-rich waters of Storms River, ziplining over the Tsitsikamma Forest, hiking, bird watching and jumping off the world's highest commercial bungy bridge, Bloukrans, are only some of the exciting things that locals and visitors are urged to do during their time in Konkie Bay.
