Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard has a spectacular beachfront Promenade stretching the length of Mouille Point and Sea Point. A broad paved sea-side contour path copies the coastline curves with views of the sea and small beaches. A green lawn separates this beachside path from the roadside pavement (sidewalk) which follows the coastal Beach Road.
Children's play parks fall at regular intervals on the lawn as do benches for ocean gazing. A maze, Putt-Putt course (mini golf) and kiddies train ride are located near the historic lighthouse on the Mouille Point side. The beaches are not really suitable for swimming but are good for discovering rock pools and getting your feet in the sand. The panorama of Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Lions Head make appearances from different angles along the shorefront.
This ±7km stretch is flat and popular for strolls with kids in prams (strollers) and senior citizens; as well as dog-walkers, brisk walkers and joggers. Bicycles and rollerblading are not permitted in the busy sections so check Promenade signs for designated areas. Crowd-pleasing before and after work with professionals enjoying outdoor workouts and on weekends with families. Cape sunsets are appreciated from the foot path or from the comfort of a vehicle parked at one of the designated parking lots. Mobile ice-cream vendors sell treats on sunny days and Beach Road cafés have coffee, drinks and eats. Idyllic at summer time the Promenade is also a shore-side ticket to Cape winter storms and tidal displays.
