DESCRIPTION:

Situated in the Central Lowveld near the Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park, close to Hoedspruit. Tshukudu, a Big 5 Game Reserve, boasts 5000ha of unspoiled bush with a lovely view to the Drakensberg Mountains.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in 6 thatched cottages (some for 2 guests, others for families) with private bathrooms. For big groups there are two big dormitory-style platforms with ablutions downstairs.

The camp contains a central indoor and outdoor eating area under thatched roofs as well as a cosy boma for your evening braai. Sheets, towels and a limited amount of fire wood are provided. All you have to bring along is your food and drinks.

Facilities

There is a big, fully equipped kitchen where you have your own fridge and cupboard. Our staff wash the dishes, assist you with the preparation of food, make fires, help with the braai and generally make you stay comfortable.

Relax around the pool or watch the animals drink at the water hole from the viewing platform. There is a wonderful playground to keep the children busy.

Game Viewing

At a very affordable rate, visitors can go on game drives and walks with a knowledgeable ranger sharing the wonders of the bush. Tshukudu is teeming with game, the birdlife is prolific and the bush has many Acacia and Marula trees that give a real feel of the African Bushveld.

The following animals can be spotted: Lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, eland, waterbuck, kudu, bushbuck, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, warthog, impala, steenbuck, duiker, porcupine, jackal, hyena, caracal, serval, civet, genet, African wild cat, hippo, crocodile and many other species.

Not only do guests see all the big and small animals in their natural environment but they can interact with our orphaned animals and go for walks with some of them.

Rehabilitation

Over the years we have cared for, raised and reintroduced a variety of animals such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, serval, caracal, civet, genet, buffalo, giraffe, impala, duiker, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, kudu, waterbuck, eland and many smaller species and birds.

However we specialize in rehabilitating big cats and have started our lion breeding project in 1986. Only 22,000 lions are left on the entire African continent (compared to 600,000 elephants). We have made it our mission to contribute to restock as many private game reserves as possible with lion and have thus far bread and sold over 250 lions to other game reserves. Guest can be shown this breeding project with all its big and small "Kings of the Jungle" as part of the game drive at no extra cost.

Schools & Youth Groups

The Bush Camp is also ideal for school and youth groups to experience nature first hand. The purpose of the camps is to teach the youth about conservation awareness, game farm management, identification of birds, trees, grasses and spoors, snakes and snake bite treatment as well as edible plants and berries.

We make the experience exciting including game drives, walks and lectures as well as sports activities such as volley ball, swimming and bush rounders.
