"What is 3D Secure and how does it make using my credit card more secure?"

Our system validates credit cards using 3D Secure. This is a security layer which checks that the person making the payment is the authorised cardholder by way of a one-time pin delivered by SMS or e-mail, OR a memorised password / secret code. This ensures that the person using the card to make payment, is allowed to do so. 3D Secure is a legislated prerequisite for all online purchases in South Africa. It is is mandated by the Card Associations and managed by South African banks.

The Visa security product is Verified by Visa, MasterCard utilises SecureCode and American Express uses Safekey.

How will I know if my card is 3D Secure enrolled?

Once you've selected the payment method, entered in your credit card details and clicked on the "Pay Now, to confirm booking" button you will be directed to the 3D Secure page where you will be prompted to enter your OTP or password. Should your card not be enrolled you will be directed to a Payment Failed page which will offer alternate payment methods or allow you to re-try the payment once your card is enrolled.

My card is not enrolled - what now?

If your card is not yet enrolled, you will need to request enrolment from the card issuing bank. This can be done either via your online banking, in a branch or by making a quick call to the card issuing bank (their contact number appears on the back of the card). Once your card is enrolled you can proceed with the credit card payment to confirm your booking. See detailed instructions on how to activate 3D Secure.
