North Riding, Randburg
Situated on the northern outskirts of Johannesburg, close to the city’s ubiquitous Dome at Northgate, North Riding was once an area given over mainly to small holdings; plots of land on the outskirts of Johannesburg carefully selected by those seeking to exchange the hum and drum of city dwelling for that of something a little more like country living.
North Riding has developed so steadily that it now not only encroaches on the country lifestyle sought by those who initially moved to North Riding, but business too has made its presence felt in the form of the Northlands development - a series of business parks that spread over a million square metres of land to meet the demand for industrial premises. Despite this, North Riding manages to retain the advantage of a peaceful and rural lifestyle on the edge of the city. Houses here, particularly those bought before the development that has hit the country over the last 10 years or so, are on large tracts of land with beautiful cultivated gardens. Development has worked in their favour too as now residents not only have beautiful homes, they are also close to restaurants, shopping centres, the Randburg CBD, Sandton, Fourways and Kya Sands.
From North Riding one has easy access to the Cradle of Humankind, the World Heritage Site situated a mere 20 minutes from here where scientific discoveries have amounted to a breakthrough about the origins of humankind, and a large number of popular wedding venues are situated out around North Riding, making it an obvious choice when attending these rites of passage.
