BROEDERSTROOM

Broederstroom: The little town of Broederstroom lies on the Daspoortrand in the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains, roughly 40 minutes’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, virtually on the doorstep of the Magaliesberg Nature Reserve and a few kilometres from Hartebeespoort Dam, the water sport mecca for weekend Gautengers.

This is a world of nature parks, walking trails, mountain biking trails, peace, a space in which to breathe and a rich diversity of fauna and flora that forms part of the incredible scenic beauty of the region. Broederstroom lies in an area geared for tourism and nature based adventure yet it offers, at the same time, a restorative loveliness that never fails to fortify those who visit here.

There is no shortage of activities and places to visit when staying in Broederstroom. The Crocodile Ramble - a route of art studios and galleries, restaurants, pubs, tea gardens, adventure, nurseries, antiques, picnic spots and accommodation - and the Magalies Meander both provide hours of pretty drives and exciting stops.

The Lesedi Cultural Village, just down the road from Broederstroom, offers an authentic African cultural village experience complete with dance displays, craft market and restaurant, and the Cradle of Humankind, which continues to uncover fossils preserved for millions of years in a mixture of limestone and other sediments, includes the Sterkfontein and Wonder Caves - two of the more famous of the dozen or so caves involved in the uncovering of our ancestors and described as the anthropological treasure house of the world..
