Grotto Bay is an easily accessible coastal bay virtually right next door to the Grotto Bay Private Nature Reserve, on the R27 south west of Darling and not even an hour out of Cape Town. The beach is wild, craggy and windswept, and the beauty immediately obvious. From Cape Town International Airport:
1. Head northeast on Ring Rd for 700 m.
2. Continue straight on Ring Rd for 350 m.
3. Keep left to stay on Ring Rd for 650 m.
4. Use the right lane to turn slightly left toward Airport Approach Rd for 180 m.
5. Merge onto Airport Approach Rd using the right lane for 190 m.
6. Keep right to stay on Airport Approach Rd for 1.9 km.
7. Merge onto Settlers Way/N2 for 2.2 km.
8. Take exit 14 for M7, then turn right onto Jakes Gerwel Dr.
9. Continue on M7, then N7 for 25.8 km.
10. Exit onto Melkbosstrand Rd/M19, follow R27, then Grotto Dr, Sea Eagle Drive, Albatross Drive, and turn left onto Penguin Close.
