The typical little Karoo town of Calitzdorp lies on Route 62, about four hours drive from Cape Town and roughly half way to Port Elizabeth. Calitzdorp is renowned in its own right for a number of reasons, not least of which is its bona fide Klein Karoo character. If you’re travelling west on Route 62 from Oudtshoorn, towards Cape Town, look out for Calitz Street, just before you reach the Standard Bank (your left) in the center of Calitzdorp. Turn right here at the cemetery (north – the signpost says ‘Groenfontein’) and drive for exactly two km along Calitz Street. Calitzdorp Country House is here on your left.
From Ladismith
