Just 30 minutes outside the heart of Cape Town is the pretty little town of Kuils River. Watched over by the scenic Bottelary Mountains, this quaint town combines the charm of a rural setting with the beauty that is so undeniably showcased by the Western Cape of South Africa.

Within these surrounds is Suzie’s Coffee Shop, where the traditional foodie favourites are savoured and the warm hospitality is served in generous amounts. Suzie’s is known for the moer koffie (a strong roasted coffee that is made in the traditional way, using a cloth bag) and roosterbrood (dense, moist bread that is grilled on the fire for an unmistakeable smoky flavour). In addition, there is a breakfast, lunch and sweets menu that is designed to tempt.

The breakfast menu includes a number of variations on the traditional bacon-and-egg flavours. However, there are also other delicious options; like bacon (or sautéed mushrooms) and melted cheese on roosterbrood, or an omelette stuffed with cheese, mushrooms and onion. The lunch menu boasts a variety of toasted sandwiches and roosterbrood topped with delectable ingredients, as well as quiche, a garden salad, baked potato, tomato bredie (stew), or a hearty roosterbrood burger.

Diners wanting to indulge can sample the cheesecake, carrot cake, coffee cake, red velvet cake, muffins, or scones. These are best enjoyed with a hot coffee or a fruit juice.

There is a cosy indoor dining area that is characterised by bold colours and an eclectic collection of bottles, plates, cake stands, picture frames and more. There is also an outdoor area, where little ones can play and families can enjoy the cool dappled shade of the trees on a warm summer’s day.
