About the Sedgefield Slow Festival

No Slow Festival in 2018

Remember when people had fun without television, cell phones and computers? When all kids could ride bikes and played outdoors all day?

Well, Slow Festival is all about having fun the old-fashioned way. Celebrating the great outdoors in and around the sea-side town of Sedgefield, the Slow Festival includes a wide range of activities for all ages and interests. Events include: flying bunny beach fling and egg dash, the sand sculpting challenge, nightly drive-in, the ‘Anything that Floats’ challenge, slow bike challenge, music trivia evening, slow fest beauty pageant, Goukamma traverse trail run, Lions volleyball tournament and amazing creatures and band street parade and a whole lot more! Proceeds of events go to local charities, schools and organisations.

Sedgefield was declared Africa's first Cittaslow Town in October 2010. Inspired by the concept of 'slow food', Cittaslow is a worldwide membership organisation promoting quality of life and resisting fast-lane lifestyle. Cittaslow (which literally means 'slow city') originated in Italy in 1999 and represents nearly 100 towns across the world. Abiding by a list of values aimed at improving quality of life, registered Cittaslow towns celebrate diversity of cultures and promote the specialties of their own people and surroundings

While most people live by their watches, the Sedgefield Slow Festival will offer the time to enjoy, appreciate and savour.
