Magalies Park, Hartbeespoort Dam

Lying on the banks of Hartbeespoort Dam, Magalies Park is a timeshare and golfing estate that has the added bonus of being right in the centre of a declared bird sanctuary. The combination of nature and golfing makes the estate a much sought after yuppie destination and many Jo'burgers use this as a weekend or holiday base, particularly as it's so conveniently situated, not even an hour's drive from the metropolis.

Magalies Park markets itself as ‘the most comprehensive sporting and recreational facility in the North West Province' and the focus is on fun for the whole family. It is not about golf alone when staying here, right next to the waters of the dam.

There are jogging and hiking trails, tennis, volley ball, swimming pools, river cruises, canoeing or paddling, fishing, picnicking, giant chess, court cricket and mini golf. Add to this the other attractions of the Hartbeespoort area, such as the snake park that includes a zoo with lions, tigers, leopards and monkeys; the aquarium, the bird park, the cableway, hot air ballooning, and the nearby Crocodile Ramble, and suddenly the attraction of Magalies Park increases.

Magalies Park, originally known as Riverbend Farm, has undergone something of a makeover from a cattle-breeding farm into the timeshare and golfing estate that it is today. The major star of the show when staying here though is the ever present majesty of the Magaliesberg Mountain. Although the consistently blue skies and the permanent presence of water contribute in no small way.
