As a wedding photographer my job is first and foremost to ‘get’ my clients - to understand what it is that they want and how they want it. I have a particular visual style - how I choose to frame images and process them - but that style is always impacted on and complimented by the people in front of my lens.
One of the first things I do when I meet new clients is to ask loads of questions: How do you feel in front of the lens? Do you want posed, formal photographs? Or do you want only informal photographs with no posing? Do you want all your family in the photos? How long would you like to spend on bridal photos? How many printed photographs do you want? Do you want a coffee table book instead? What are the colours of your wedding theme?
The next thing I do is listen. I listen to all the information that you give me and I take that into your wedding with me. That way I know, because you’ve told me, that Aunt Pam is going to try and get her kids into every single photograph ... and that where possible you’d prefer that not to happen.
That you’re really nervous of dancing in front of people because you’re scared you’re going to stand on your fiancé’s toes. That every time a camera flash goes off you tend to blink (I do exactly the same by the way, and there are definitely ways around it). That you’re not too fond of posed photographs, but you’re willing to give them a try. I listen because at the end of the day I know I’ll be able to give you a record of your wedding day that you will absolutely treasure.

“Costa and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the absolutely gorgeous, stunning, beautiful (I have no other words to describe, they are just unbelievable) photos of our wedding. You captured every moment, the happiness, the joy, the sadness, everything.” Costa and Carmen, London
“Thank you for capturing our day exactly as I remember it- fun- filled with love and surrounded by family. I love the fact the pictures are real ...My family and I were so impressed by you and Dan that day. You were friendly and blended in with everyone and everything happening around us. You never missed a moment and because of that I now have the most amazing photos of my family - even the camera shy ones.” Angelo and Welmie, Plett
“Dear Roberta, Every time when we have a look at the photos in the album, we feel like we’re back in South Africa. The photos are just perfect. For that, we’d like to say a very big thank you! You are a great part in our unforgettable wedding day” Stefan & Rahel, Switzerland
