12 Eighth Avenue, Parktown North, Sandton, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Directions to Acorns on 8th

From OR Tambo International Airport
1. Leave the Airport and follow the {Johannesburg R24 (N3)} signs.
2. After 2.6kms you pass under the Isando Road bridge (no name).
3. At this stage, I’d suggest you keep to the left hand lane. (Remember you’re driving on the “wrong” side of the road!!)
4. 0.9 kms further on, (3.5kms from Airport) you pass the Barbara Road off ramp.
5. At this point the on-ramp from Barbara Road forms a new left lane, but stay in what is now the centre lane, as the left lane is a left-turn-only at the next off ramp.
6. 4.0kms further on, (7,5kms) you pass the {Edenvale Road / Germiston} off-ramp.
7. 1km (8,5kms) further on, the road sweeps to the right, where you pass over the N12 highway, and then merge with it.
8. You pass under two bridges – now both called Boeing Rd. (Different on map)
9. Stay in the left hand lane.
10. 2.5kms (11.0kms) after merging with the N12, the road forks. Follow the signs {N3, N12,(M2) Johannesburg, Kimberley, Durban}. You will follow a long sweep to the left which will take you on to the N3 highway.
11. No rush, but whilst going up the hill, move to the lane that is second from the left.
12. You’ll pass under Nicol Weg and Kloof Weg (weg is Afrikaans for “road”) bridges and after 2.3kms (13.3kms) pass the Van Buuren Weg off-ramp.
13. You pass a sign where the 3 left hand lanes turn off to {M2 Germiston / Johannesburg}. Follow the Johannesburg signs.
14. Approaching the top of the hill, you’ll pass under Cydonia Road, and then 1.7kms (15.0kms) after van Buuren, you drive under the Main Reef Road bridge.
15. At this point you’ll approach a sign telling you that the 3 right hand lanes go straight on, to the {N3, N12 Kimberley/Durban} road and the 3 left lanes follow the {M2 Germiston/Johannesburg} roads. Follow the Johannesburg signs.
16. A sign further on will then tell you that the left lanes split – the left lane goes to Germiston and the next 2 lanes will go straight to Johannesburg. Again, follow the Johannesburg signs. (15.6kms)
17. The Johannesburg road sweeps to the right in a long, tight turn, where you join the M2 highway.
18. Stay in the lane second from the left, as the left lane is a left-turn-only lane.
19. You pass under Lower Germiston Road. (No name)
20. 1,8kms (18.2kms) after joining the M2, you’ll pass the {Cleveland Road} offramp. Carry on straight, following the M2 City/Stad directions.
21. At this stage, what was the centre lane becomes the left lane. You’ll later pass a Shell filling station and go under a bridge with no name.
22. 2.6kms (20.8kms) later you’ll pass the {Denver} off ramp.
23. 1.5kms (22.3kms) later you’ll pass the {Ruven weg/Benrose} off ramp.
24. 1.3kms (23.6kms) later you’ll pass the {Maritzburg Str/Kaserne} off ramp.
25. 0.9kms (24.5kms) later you’ll pass the {Heidelberg Rd} off ramp.
26. 200 metres later, you’ll pass an off-ramp to {M31 Harrow Road} and a sign for {M9 Rissik Street} straight ahead. Carry straight on.
27. After going under the Harrow Road Bridge, you will automatically be in the centre lane. Don’t move to the left lane, as there are left-only turns ahead.
28. You are now approaching the centre of Johannesburg where the highway is elevated. You’ll pass the Selby and Rissik Street off-ramp. (1.7kms from Harrow Road and 25.8kms in total)
29. After the Rissik Street off-ramp, move in to the left lane.
30. Stay in the left lane and follow the {M1 Sandton/Pretoria} sign to the left. Straight on goes to {Bloemfontein/Roodepoort}.
31. The {Sandton/Pretoria} road veers off to the left and then sweeps to the right as it becomes a double-decker highway, with a road above you.
32. You will now be driving in the lane second from the left. Carry straight on. Don’t go into the left lane.
33. You pass off-ramps to {Carr Street, Newtown} 28.4kms and {Smit Street} 28.9kms. After Smit Street you will be driving in the left lane. Stay there. Wits University is on both sides of the highway at this point. You’ll pass the off ramps of {Empire Road} 29.9kms, {Jan Smuts Avenue} 30.4kms, {Oxford Road} 31.4kms and {1ste Ln Houghton} (that’s 1st Avenue in Afrikaans – 33.3kms).
34. You then pass {11de Ln} (11th Avenue in Afrikaans – 35.3kms) before turning off at the next off-ramp, {M20 Glenhove Road} 35.9kms.
35. Turn LEFT at the top of the off-ramp towards Rosebank.
36. This is Glenhove Road. Keep going straight and pass through 1 set of traffic lights (5th Street 36.6kms), and when approaching a second traffic light at Oxford Road, keep to the left lane. There is a MacDonald’s on your right. Go straight over the intersection and stay in the left lane.
37. The road goes down the hill and changes to the name of Bolton Road. Carry straight on through 3 sets of traffic lights (Cradock Avenue - 37.8kms, Bath Avenue - 37.9kms, Blandford Road - 38.1kms) before coming to a 4th light at Jan Smuts Avenue. (38.5kms)There is a plant nursery (Garden Shop) across the road to your right and The Goodman Gallery to the left. Carry straight on.
38. At this point the road does a kink and becomes Chester Road. (You still haven’t changed direction since turning onto Glenhove Road off the highway) Go straight through 1 set of traffic lights (Cardigan Road to the left and 3rd Avenue to the right – 39.2kms) and at the next road, Dorset Road (39.4kms), turn RIGHT. There is a townhouse complex on your left as you turn, called Dorset Place.
39. Drive straight up Dorset Road, which becomes 4th Avenue. Continue straight over 5th Avenue, 6th Avenue, through the traffic lights on 7th Avenue and turn left into 8th Avenue. (Named 8ste Laan – 40.2kms)
40. We’re no.12, the big slate roofed house second on the left.
41. There are 4 buttons at the gate – “Eeny”, “Meeny”, Miny” and “Mo”. The main house is Eeny, but pressing anyone should get our attention.
