Between a rock and a soft space lies the remnants of the unofficial rock art revolution instigated by Nukain Mabusa's 'Garden of Flowers'. Amidst indigenous Lowveld bush split by a regional highway, boulders painted in geometric shapes make for a quirky roadside gallery for motorists passing through.

Typical of the 80's these stones once stood out in bold brights which have now faded under the African sun to camouflage their individual rock faces in tall grass. The artist, Nukain's, work has subsequently gone on to be used as a creative promotional attractions by Barberton Tourism. This example of his early early vision as an 'outside artist' is rumoured to have started by his boredom which led to this eccentric outdoor painting. Later his perseverance led to him sitting under the shade of a nearby African thorn tree and his entrepreneurial spirit led to him charging gazers whose curiosity stopped to stare.

Now deceased, these rocks serve as a self-made tombstone to a South African artist whose rocks were featured in photographer Obie Oberholzer's coffee table book 'Southern Circle'.
