The ancient practice of labyrinth walking is known as the laying on of feet. In a garden on a mountain top amidst a ancient woodland village of Baboons, Bushbuck, Impala, Grey Duikers, Klipspringer, Kudu, Monkeys, Mountain Rhebuck, Red Duikers,Warthogs, Wildebeest and Zebra; lies a mythical labyrinth.
Protected from the naked sky by an interweaving of overhanging leaves, this enormous winding trail flows freely beside a natural stream. Heaven reaching tree trunks encircle these looping paths that close in on an answer and open up the question. A footpath for the feet, a pathway for the mind. A clearer state of presence is achieved by the alertness kept by the mind to walk the line and the relaxation of thought to surrender and be led.
Build under the wings of forest birdlife this Boondocks labyrinth was based on the historic labyrinth of Charles Cathedral in France and cast by retreat founder Stuart Jenson. The labyrinth concept has been around since 2500 BC and is suggested to represent the shape of mother nature with the single access place reflecting the umbilical cord; giving birth to our soul. Removed from choices the pattern walked opens up its walkers to their inner wisdom and connects imagination to logic, creativity to consciousness and heart to head.
This spiritual place rests on 2 200 Hectares of pristine bush with vivid valley views and a platform for inner perspective. Day visitors are encouraged to pack a picnic to be enjoyed in this amphitheatre of mountains near Kaapmuiden. A spa-bath and open-air shower drink in the peace with lack of cellphone signal honouring the stillness. Niches for meditation nestle themselves amongst root and soil for a peaceful outing of contemplation and spiritual exploration.
