| Itinerary - Day 1: |
| We leave Cape
Town after breakfast and travel along the N1, through the wine lands of Paarl and
Worcester. Within one hour we are in the little Karoo - a semi desert but with fruit and
wine farms along the Breede River. We can visit some of the wine cellars and take part in
a tasting. Very soon we will arrive in the area of the Ostrich capital, Oudtshoorn. We
will visit an ostrich farm where you will learn everything about this desert, flightless
bird. We overnight in Oudtsoorn. |
| Itinerary - Day 2: |
| After visiting
the Cango Caves or the Crocodile farm, we will depart for our next wildlife experience. We
will travel in a valley known for its apple farms, Langkloof, until we join the N2 just
before Port Elizabeth. One hour from there, we will be in the Addo National Park. This
park was established in 1931 and has the highest concentration of elephants in any park.
Besides elephants there are also Rhino and Buffalo and many antelope. We will spend the
night at the park. |
| Itinerary - Day 3: |
| After
breakfast, we will do on last game drive before leaving the park and making or way back
towards Port Elizabeth. After a short city tour, we will continue along the N2 towards the
Tsitsikamma Mountains. Very soon we will be surrounded by the largest indigenous forest in
South Africa. We are staying at a hotel at the foot of the mountains, surrounded by
forests. |
| Itinerary - Day 4: |
| This is where
the heart of the Garden Route starts. We visit a very large, 800 year old Yellowwood tree,
before turning off to Natures Valley, following the old national road for a scenic drive.
Flowers, ferns, beaches and mountains are our companions. Before long we are in
Plettenbergbay, our premier holiday, beach destination. Its a small town,
beautifully situated on the bay of Formosa as the Portuguese called it 500 years
ago. In the whaling season, June to October whales may be seen close to the beach.
We continue, towards Knysna. In Knysna we will visit the Knysna Quays, with its wonderful
shops and restaurants. A boat ride ion the lagoon is included. Perhaps some oysters and
sparkling wine will go down well. We overnight in Knysna. |
| Itinerary - Day 5: |
| At about 9 am
I will take you to the Railway Station where you will board the famous, the Outeniqua Choo
Choo. This slow steam train, winds past lakes, along rivers and the ocean and arrives in
George at about lunch time. After a short inspection of the Museum, we continue towards
Mosselbay. When the Portuguese Seafarer, Diaz searched for a route to India, it was here
where he landed after rounding the African continent. In a museum, we can see a replica of
the boat in which he made the epic journey. We overnight in Mosselbay. |
| Itinerary - Day 6: |
| After
breakfast we continue on the N2, past Riversdale and Swellendam before turning off towards
the coast again where we will come to the most southerly point of the African
continent, Cape Aghulas. Then we will visit the quaint little fishing village of Arniston,
where you can see the original little fishermans cottages of the fishing folk. We
overnight in Arniston. |
| Itinerary - Day 7: |
| First we will
travel through the wheat and merino sheep farms of the Overberg, before coming back to the
coast at Hermanus and then following the coast until we get to False Bay and Cape Town
again. That route is also known as the flower route and in spring the mountain sides are
covered by Erica, Geraniums and Proteas. It is a very spectacular route, with high
mountains on one side and the sea on the other. We arrive late in the afternoon, back in
Cape Town. |
